Mclaren has collaborated with many companies over the years, such as Mercedes-Benz, to
manufacture the SLR, which featured a 5.5 litre supercharged V8 engine that produced a
massive 617 brake-horsepower. Mclaren also had more plans with Mercedes, aiming to build
improvements of the original 1999 SLR, but unfortunately these plans were aborted
in 2005.
There are many divisions of racing in Mclaren, but the most prominent is the Mclaren F1 team,
the second oldest active Formula one team after Ferrari. In addition they are the
second most successful team in Formula One history after Ferrari, having one 182
races, 12 drivers’ championships and 8 constructors’ championships. The father of the F1 team
was Bruce McLaren, entering their first F1 car in the notorious Monaco Grand Prix in
1966. Throughout the team’s history only one driver really stands out, and that can be no
other than Ayrton Senna, driving in the orange of the McLaren, and regarded as the
greatest driver F1 has ever seen.
Sadly Senna tragically died ina catastrophic fatal accident at Imola, in 1994. However as a
tribute, recently McLaren released their newest model, called the McLaren Senna, built with
extreme precision and care, and is one of the best handling road vehicles on the
planet.
